RSC members can submit their vintage bicycles for a free listing in the Historical Register and, in some cases, can apply for a certification and the listing in the Special Register. This guide explains in detail how to proceed.
Listing in the Historical Register
1. Check requirements
Before applying, it is important to check the necessary requirements. Historical Registers generally include relevant vintage bicycles corresponding to the original catalogs and fittings. There is no definitive rule for defining a vintage bicycle, by convention regulations adopted for participation in vintage cycling events are used today. Hence, a bike is generally considered vintage if it was produced before 1987, has a steel lugged frame, gear levers on the frame or at the ends of handlebars, external cable routing and pedals with foot cages and straps. RSC can in some cases still accept bicycles outside these criteria after evaluating and verifying their historical importance, e.g. some aluminium frames, more common bicycles useful for understanding popular models such as the mid- and low-end Bianchis of the 1970s-80s, or some post-1987 models.
2. Submit the request
To request the registration of your bicycle in one of the historical registers, you need to send an e-mail to the address indicated in the corresponding register webpage, including all information and photographs relating to the bicycle. Brand experts will evaluate the request and notify you of the outcome. In case of doubt or for any further information, you can contact them via the appropriate RSC Social Groups.
3. Pictures Quality
Please pay attention to pictures content and quality, you will find useful tips in our guide to bike photoshooting.
In general, photographs should be bright and of good resolution, with sizes between 400kb and 2000kb. Foreground elements must have a neutral/blurred background and portray:
- the entire bicycle from both sides (driver’s side mandatory) and from various angles
- frame details: serial number, lugs, bottom bracket, dropouts, pantographs, etc.
- components: derailleurs, crankset, brakes, dropbar, rims, etc.
4. Cost
Bike listing in the Historical Register is completely free of charge
5. Terms
Bikes listed in our free, public Registers available on the web, become a shared cultural heritage. Bike owners must therefore be aware that by sending to RSC photos and data of their bikes, they agree to share this information in the public domain and will not be able to have it removed. It is possible to register bikes anonymously or to have the name hidden after publication for privacy reasons.
Listing in the Special Register
1. Check requirements
Delivery of the Certificate of Historicity and listing in the Special Register are reserved to RSC members and to those bicycles that, besides meeting the historical register requirements, are also recognized as historically significant, i.e. important, flawless bicycles, complete or completed with period-correct components identical to the original model.
2. Submit the request
Owners need to send an e-mail with pictures and all available information concerning the bike to certificazione@registrostoricocicli.com. If necessary, they will be asked to provide further pictures, details or other additional information. For any further clarification on how to proceed, please contact us on the above e-mail address or through our Facebook page Registro Storico Cicli.
